FDA UK distribution guide and questions on film distribution
1. What is meant by the term 'Film distribution'?
The term film distribution refers to the process that allows audiences to view and enjoy films. An example of this are the different platforms that a film can be distributed on such as DVD's and cinema screening.
2. What does a film distributor do?
A film distributor can have several things to do for each and every film that the distribute. These things include:
- identifying the audience for the film whilst considering possible reasons for the public to go and view it.
- Estimating potential revenue for the film from all formats made available.
- Developing plans to build awareness and interest in the film.
- To convert as much interest in the film into actual ticket sales as possible
- convincing as many cinema operators to screen the film as possible
3. How does reach relate to film distribution?
Reach has a direct correlation to film distribution as obviously, the more the film is known by the public, the higher the number of secondary audience members will see the advertisements and thus have interest in paying to view it.
